New Vertabase Timer and Helping Adobe Launch New Service

We are excited to announce the latest version of the Vertabase Timer. This coincides with the launch of a new try-before-you-buy service from Adobe. We were honored to be part of only a handful of applications chosen to help launch this service.

The new Vertabase Timer (version 3.0) has a ton of new features like:

  • A sleeker new look
  • New charting and graphing functionality
  • New personalization options including user names, skins and more
  • Billing rates for profitability analysis
  • Adding notes and contact information per task
  • Reminders when you are working on tasks

As with the previous versions, it runs on Adobe AIR and is written Flex. It works on Windows and MAC as a desktop timer. It is a fast and fun way to track time on projects, clients or tasks.

The new Vertabase Timer is available for Trial Download or Purchase. There is a special introductory price of $5.

I have a few coupon codes from Adobe to offer the application for free. Contact me directly on the contact form if you’d like one of codes.

ColdFusion, Flex and Adobe Parties in Michigan

There have been a couple of great get-togethers in the ColdFusion, Flex and Adobe user group communities in Michigan.

The month started out with a combined holiday party of the Mid-Michigan ColdFusion Users Group and the Michigan Flex Users Group in East Lansing. It was a complete geek-out fest. Pizza, beer, MAX 2008 recap and important debate on topics such as the killer app of 2008 and wish list for apps for 2009 ( a favorite: Road Rage 2009 -first person shooter game for GPS). Thank you Rick, Nick and Randy for putting it together.

Last night, the Detroit Area Adobe User Group met for an informal holiday gather. Lots of pizza, a download of MAX 2008, talk about Papervision, CF, Bolt and big excitement for FP10 on mobile. There were several younger developers just getting into Flash, Flex and ColdFusion. Thank you Terry and Mike, the co-managers.

Now Michigan has settled into a Winter storm with tons of snow, cold, shoveling and outdoor activities. The two get-togethers were a nice way to wind down the year in the User Group communities and set the pace for a fun, educational and inspiring 2009.

First Draft, Late Night Post on CFML Language Development BOF

Where to start? It all happened so fast. In the blink of an eye the MAX BOF Session on CFML Language Development came and went. But what a great session.
First off, thanks Jason Delmore (Adobe), Adam Haskell and Matt Woodward (OpenBD), Gert Franz (Railo -who wins the pulling an all nighter to participate award) and Sean Corfield (CFML Advisory committee -graciously agreeing to speak).

And of course, everyone who participated in person and online.

About half the meeting got recorded on Acrobat Connect right here

Here is a recap of the first half from my recollection. I would invite speakers and participants to add in their recollections as well.

Vertabase Timer for AIR 1.0

The popular Vertabase Timer now runs on AIR 1.0.

Visit the Timer download site to get this handy widget to track time on clients or on projects. It runs on both MAC and Windows (because its AIR).

The current version is 0.9 and we’re still collecting feedback via the forum on what you’d like to see in the widget.

Vertabase Timer Now on Adobe Exchange!

The Vertabase Timer is now available for download directly from the Adobe Exchange.

It is a great way to track time on projects or to track time on clients (or really anything).

This is an alpha build so please sign up for the updates or check the time track message board for known issues.

Also, development of the Vertabase time tracking tool will be driven by user feedback, particularly early adopters. So fire away.

Thank You Cleveland Adobe User Group & Congrats

A big thank you to the Cleveland Adobe User Group for hosting me last week. We had a good session on designing software and on using project management software.

Thank you to Mike Cooper for arranging the meeting and to Lodestone Digital for hosting it.

Congratulations to Brian Meloche on becoming an Adobe Community Expert (an ACE)! Brian has been active in the ColdFusion Community for years. Most recently he hosted some of the best sessions at MAX on ColdFusion. Congratulations on a well-deserved achievement.

"Mark went out of his way to give a "real-world" talk on project management that was motivating and informational. Several of our group member filled up notebooks with great tips and takeaways from Mark's talk. I would highly recommend Mark for any discussion on Project Management and his talk is great for any audience."
